In preparation for the State One Act Festival and their attempt at earning a State Superior award, drama students are diligently writing their play. This year’s show is called “All for One,” and while the general theme of the play is set in advance–senior and four time State One Act participant Olivia Perli describes it as “about young people coming together for the greater good”–the rest has yet to be written. Together with Justin Speck, the artistic director, and Joey Lore, the technical director, the students cast in the play are responsible for writing the entire script.  Cade Janvrin, the assistant director and company stage manager, explained that currently students are still deciding exactly what they want to cover and what to do with it.

“It’s a crazy insane process,” Lore says. “Things are going great right now and everything is on pace.”

The competition play is not the only play in production, as a second show is traditionally directed by a student. This year’s play is “Monsters Under the Bed” and is directed by senior Keeza Leavens. “’Monsters Under the Bed’ is about teenagers tackling their fear of going into high school,” Keeza says. When asked about the experience of being a director of her own show, she says that the experience is exciting, and she looks forward to rehearsal each day.

The technical side of this process is also very unique. “On the technical side of things, we work on the student directed one first because we know what they need,” Lore states. The two plays have different needs and focusing on the play that is written has proven the best way to begin. Chloe Silbernagel says that the costumes are done and that the costumes crew is far ahead.

The One Act plays will be performed at Central on February 3rd and 4th. Afterwards, the cast and crew of the State show will travel to the competition and attempt to win a State Superior Show award.
