Recycling Too Difficult for Central High School

Why doesn’t Central High School have recycling? The Pine Needle asked.

Have you ever wondered why we don’t have more options of bins to dispose of our different kinds of trash? Here at Central High School we have trash cans, but why don’t we have recycling bins or any other kind of bin for that matter?

“We actually used to have blue bins back in 2019, but students would fill them with garbage in a day,” said Julie McGeary, a biology teacher in freshman academy and the former secretary of environmental club. “And putting sugary cans into the blue bins attracted fruit flies,” she explained. Which is unfortunate to hear, but what if we were to inform people on how to properly recycle and try again with the blue bins?

“We have tried for multiple years, but the school is too big and it’s hard finding more help to empty the bins,” McGeary said.

Central used to have big gray bins that were for only paper, but that also unfortunately became more complicated as teachers filled them with old paper, which caused the school to pay the company more because of how heavy the bins were. So, there is currently no better solution to get recycling bins or any alternative bins. Unfortunately 😦
