The Marching Band performs at the Central-Stevens game

Stevie Wonder fans have been enjoying great performances by the Central High School Cobbler Band. The Marching band has been playing “You Are the Sunshine of my Life,” “Don’t You Worry About a Thing,” “Sir Duke,” and “Isn’t She Lovely” at the Central home football games, and the full band played those songs last night at the indoor marching show in the Central High School gym, wrapping up the fall season.

According to the band director, Mr. Rath, one of his favorite songs that the band performed was “Sir Duke” because of its easy groove and because it’s a nice challenge for the band. Students who are in the band have been excited to play music by the legendary Stevie Wonder.  Michael French says, “Our music is like getting a first kiss, a once in a life time experience and you will never forget it.”

The marching band members not only love playing this kind of music but they are very enthusiastic about the shows. Almost everyone who is in the marching band is in it because they love to play music, to make friends who have the same interests, and they simply love the fun. Just like Michael French says, “You will never meet someone like a band kid, EVER!”

All the band students interviewed agreed that they love the band trips they go on. They went to Vermillion in October for a marching band competition. In the spring, they will be going to San Antonio, Texas. They may not win the marching competition but like Tyler Fitzner thinks, “The band is pretty good and much better than Stevens’!”
