Student Council Optimistic about Homecoming Theme

By Torrian Newman-Webb

A “Blast from the Past” is going to be heard throughout Central during homecoming week. The student council recently chose this theme for the 2014-2015 homecoming and already it is receiving good judgment from both council members and staff and students.

Many will remember last year’s theme, which was “Disney.” The theme seemed like a good idea at first, but it proved difficult in practice, leading fewer students to dress up for the theme days. However, those in Student Council believe that they can make up for last year by choosing a theme that hasn’t been done before. During this year’s homecoming, fashion statements from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s are going to be filling up Central hallways, and students are already anticipating the event, which is in two weeks.

There were many good ideas at the student council’s recent meeting. One senior representative proposed an “Apocalypse” theme. While it was viewed by many as an amazing idea, it was quickly dismissed due to face paint not being allowed during school hours. Junior representatives proposed a “Candyland” or “Alice in Wonderland” theme, which were also dismissed because of the similarities with last year’s theme.

“We just want something that we’ve never done before” said Liliana N., who is the current class president. “Everything that we have done in previous years was close to excellent. But I personally feel that this year’s theme will make everyone want to be included.”
