Cobbler Marching Band Starts Out Strong

By Evan Sand

bandcapes copyOn Friday September 12th the Central Cobbler football team played the Douglas Patriots, but what many people don’t know is that the Central marching band played their first performance at the half-time show. Stevens played that night against Sturgis and their marching band played as well. The good news for Cobblers’ fans is that for the first time in a long while, Central’s marching band is looking better than Stevens’s marching band. Not only is the band more in step, but the flags are in line as well. Mr. Dragoo, assistant band director at Stevens, admitted, “We are a little rough.” Mr. Rath, Central’s band director, commended his musicians: “We are coming together very musically and I am proud of all my students.”

Central’s and Stevens’s marching bands have a rivalry of sorts. Band kids stick with other band kids, for the most part, but they are very competitive when it comes to playing better than other bands, particularly when it comes to the cross-town rival Raiders. Could this good showing be the beginning of a new era for the Cobbler marching band? Only time will tell!

Editor’s note: In a previous version of this story, Cobbler Band Director Mr. Toby Rath’s name was inadvertently referred to as “Mr. Wrath.” This was an unfortunate error, and the Pine Needle staff will attest that he is really very nice and particularly encouraging to all his musicians.
