Girls’ Soccer Dispatches Sturgis

By Calista Giannonatti

The Central girls’ soccer team added another win Tuesday night against Sturgis. The Cobblers got on the scoreboard early with a simple, clean goal by Sarra Gutknecht, with a beautiful assist from Maddison Sullivan. Sullivan then went on to score the next two goals, angling herself as a potential top scorer this season. The final goal of the first half came from Regina Pinnix (marking her first varsity goal), who had her shot blocked but was right there to put the rebound in the net. At halftime the score stood 4-0.

The second half started out with a slower pace, taking until the halfway point for rookie Madeline Avery to punch in another goal. The Sturgis girls then tried to put pressure on the defense, getting close a few times. With the game drawing to a close, Regina Pinnix scored her second goal of the game, bringing the score to 6-0. The game ended minutes later, Sturgis falling to the Cobblers, but they put up a good fight. They proved that they are improving over the years and have some players that show great potential. The Cobbler girls now stand 3-0-1.

The Cobbler boys also won against Sturgis, with a score of 10-0. The boys stand at 2-2.

The Cobblers play Aberdeen Central Friday and Pierre Governors on Saturday, both at Sioux Park Stadium.
