Halloween has always been a cause to dress up although whether or not that’s still the case for teenagers remains in the air.

“I love Halloween.” CHS Senior Tayevon Davis, who’s dressing up as a zombie, expressed to us deadpanned

“I think it’s the one time of the year where you get to dress up, and no one will judge you,” said senior Angela Vo—who’s dressing up as McLovin for Halloween. “It’s just a fun time to express what you like. Sometimes when people dress up for school, I’m like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know you enjoyed that show,’ you know? It’s a little insight or a window to see who they are.”

Lots of people throughout America love Halloween although some are less prone to partake in the dressing up aspect for a myriad of reasons. Senior Luke Webster gives his own point of view on the activity.

“Well… I wasn’t very inclined to dress up. The idea was in my head, but by the time that I thought, ‘I should dress up,’ it was kinda too late for it.”

Another senior Edwin Griffin gives an additional side to this idea. “Halloween was a much bigger deal for me as a smaller child. I guess in recent years, I like it a little less.”

On the other hand, traditions outside of America have many similarities but also some cultural differences.

“Halloween in Scotland is… It’s a little different than here,” said Callum Dewar, a history teacher. “It’s called Samwe. Halloween originates from Scotland and Ireland. It was to do with people disguising themselves to not be able to be distinguished between the ghouls and the ghosts, the out and about and the living.”

When asking Mr. Dewar about his point of view on people who don’t dress up for this holiday he gives an insightful view; “Normally, when people aren’t participating back home, it’s usually for a religious reason. So, I come out from a very different cultural perspective.”

Whether or not you dress up for the event, Edwin tells us, “I like the spirit of Halloween. I think it’s all the decorations that people get up and put out, like, all the costumes that people put together. I enjoy seeing it.”
