Seven Years’ Bad Luck Broken

Besides playoffs, the rivalry game is the most important, so for the boys’ soccer team, the recent win over Stevens was HUGE.

After seven long, brutal years of Central’s boys’ varsity soccer team losing to Stevens, on September 5th the streak was broken and the team finally overcame the Raiders. Senior soccer player Nick Glass admits he had little faith at the beginning of the match. “I thought we weren’t gonna win. After the first goal, we changed our game plan that led to better attack in the second half, which lead to more goals.” Glass is confident the season is going to continue going well. “We are now ranked 3rd in the state and we’ll keep getting better.”

The question that tags on to this win is why does Central like beating Stevens more than other schools? Senior soccer player Jaxson Schmaltz says, “The rivalry is important because they’re the other team in our town. Of course we want to beat them in everything. It’s awesome beating Stevens. It’s something that is learned when you get to high school.” The rivalry plays a huge role in the games. It makes the games more fun because the crowds are big and the players themselves want the win more than usual. This is what makes it so special for the soccer team to overcome the seven-year losing streak.
