A number of authors are coming to the Black Hills to answer questions about their most popular writings. It’s the South Dakota Festival of Books, and organizers have added things to keep teenagers entertained.  Remember the famous Hagar the Horrible comic? The creator of the funny comics has passed away, but his son, Chris Browne, has taken over the comics and is coming to the book festival to talk about it. If you are interested in seeing him and what influenced him to take over the legendary strip, he will be at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center on Friday, September 22 between 9:15-10:00 am.

Students at Central High School who are into sports and have come across the famous Sports Illustrated magazine might be interested in hearing Rob Fleder, the executive editor of Sports Illustrated, talk about writing for magazines. He will be in at Deadwood City Hall on Saturday, September 23rd between 9:00-9:45am.

Author and illustrator Chris Van Dusen is coming to the Rapid City Public Library on Thursday, September 21st between 4:30-5:30 pm. He has illustrated for many things such as children’s books (including Kate DiCamillo’s Mercy Watson), T-shirts, greeting cards, and magazines. He would be delighted to meet you and talk about his many experiences that he had with his career. He is also speaking at the Deadwood Public Library on Saturday, September 23rd between 11:00-11:45 am.

More famous authors are coming to Rapid City and Deadwood on September 21-24. You can receive more information on their website if you are interested.
